Types of Aloe

There are over 240 different species of Aloe, growing mainly in the dry region of Africa, Asia, Europe and America though it is believed that aloe plan is originally from Africa. And of the 240+ species of Aloe, only 4 are recognized as having nutritional value, with Aloe barbadensis miller considerably in the lead. This is the type of Aloe mostly used in commercial products with aloe content available today.

Harvesting and Preserving Aloe

Plant reaches maturity in four years when the leaves are harvested. The plants can be harvested every 6-8 weeks by removing 3 to 4 leaves per plant.

Leaves may be frozen and used defrosted. I have also successfully pickled them in colloidal silver. Fresh leaves may last several days wrapped and kept in a fridge.
